Purpose

The Text-to-Speech tool in Galileo is typically used by students who require read aloud accommodations when testing online. When the feature is enabled and scheduled for selected students, the student will be presented with an icon that they may click to hear the item read. The selected student will need earbuds or headphones to utilize the tool.

Please note:

Activate

The Text-to-Speech feature is automatically available for a district/charter school’s CBAS and Instructional Effectiveness benchmark assessments.  Assessment Planner Essential Standards Assessments may be available with text-to-speech.   Contact EMS and ask if the Text-to-Speech feature is available for your customized assessments.

Providing Access to Students

When the test is scheduled using the Bulk Scheduler tool, all students in the selected classes have the Text-to-Speech tool. The Text-to-Speech capability is available to users on the Bulk Schedule History page, and the Schedule Test page, accessed from the Class Calendar and the Teacher Dashboard’s Calendar view. Since teachers are the ideal users to extend the Text-to-Speech accommodation, ATI allows for the schedule of bulk scheduled assessments to be modified by teachers.

Process

1.     Administrators bulk schedule the benchmark assessments using the Bulk Scheduler tool. While completing this tool, Text-to-Speech capability can be activated for the class for the scheduled test.

2.     Users may click the test schedule on the Bulk Schedule History page or the Teacher Dashboard’s Calendar view or the Class Calendar page and edit the schedule to limit the Text-to-Speech capability for individual students. Please note a teacher can only make changes to the Text-to-Speech permissions.
